Email
New users at TRIUMF are encouraged to use Netscape as an email client and
trmail.triumf.ca as a incoming (IMAP) and outgoing (SMTP) mail server.
Trmail is maintained to a high standard of availability, is on UPS, has RAID redundant disks, and has a cold-swap
replacement CPU/power supply. Mail saved in folders on trmail will be available via IMAP from anywhere.
See here for instructions; also
here.
Many processes in Linux send email directly. This should generally work providing networking has
been properly set up with the correct domain etc. There is not a need to run the sendmail daemon in order to send mail.
Note that, if using trmail for mail, that the From: address should be properly configured in mail clients
as username@triumf.ca.
Mail Forwarding
Forwarding addresses are set in /etc/aliases. Common forwarding addresses:
- root : The machine owner
- postmaster : The machine owner
- abuse : abuse@triumf.ca
- webmaster : The machine owner, or webmaster if any
