Move closer to the projector. The IR pickups are on the front and back
of the projector (difficult to hit from the head of the table)
Make sure the projector is not already on. IF the projector is in
warm-up or cool-down mode, it will ignore the remote. Immediately it
turns on, two clicks on the power key will place it in cool-down mode again.
"Second" Hitachi projector keeps executing commands intended for "first" one:
Point remote carefully at projector. Use hand to shield other projector from
IR beam. Stand under "second" projector while pointing remote at "first" one.
If projector prompts for unwanted shutdown, wait a few seconds.
Dell projectors (room 223) all respond to the remote
It takes about 2 minutes to start both video cards (for 3 projectors)
New windows pop up on the wrong display
In merged mode or Xinerama the window manager decides on the "best"
location for new windows and sees one big display space. Some applications
can be started at a fixed location using the X11 -geometry option
X11 crashes running some applications
Programs using OpenGL (3D library) crash X in merged mode. GL is
only available on the Left Hitachi projector.
Try pinging the gatekeeper mainesnetgk.es.net (198.128.3.86)
If the gatekeeper is down (but the Internet is accessible), and the system is required for a non-ESnet
conference, the gatekeeper can be disabled by an administrator.
If one application hangs during a call, quit Vic and Rat, click
"Disconnect MBone" and reconnect. Only one copy of Rat may run
at one time, and only one copy of Vic may connect to the camera,
so that if orphan copies are running, they will block new copies.
Make sure that gnomemeeting is not running (killall -9 gnomemeeting)
Try pinging ag.triumf.ca from offsite or connecting to
ag.triumf.ca with a browser
Make sure the input selector on the
Kenwood amplifier
is set to DVD/6CH
Make sure the amplifier is turned on (not in standby)
Set the volume to about -30dB initially
In AG/VRVS, make sure the Linux mixer is not muted (master volume
or PCM level set too low)
Remote participants cannot hear you:
Make sure the the microphones are not muted -
the green LED on the Shure table microphone should be ON. If not, press
the switch on the Shure.
In AG/VRVS, make sure the talk icon in RAT is enabled - click it;
the VU meter should light up.
In the Vortex Mixer Conference Composer
application, make sure the appropriate outputs (Phone Add, Linux In) have
a signal. In the Diagnostics page(s), click "Levels" to see a VU meter.
In AG/VRVS, make sure the Linux mixer is not muted - Record on
Line In should be enabled, and Igain should not be too low. (Igain controls
how much input signal is fed to the audio input, while Line In controls
how much input signal is fed to the speaker output).
If the LEDs on Vortex are flashing
in a rotating pattern, and the VU meters are not
acting normally (increasing with increased room noise), it may be necessary to reset the Vortex units.
There is no reset or power switch, so it is necessary to disconnect the
DC power supply for a few seconds. Locate the power connector at the
left rear of the unit (black circular DIN connector - like European audio, about
1.3cm diameter) and pull it out, then reconnect it.
This may have to be done following a power outage or reboot of the computer.
Ensure the cameras are turned on (green light on camera).
See the Camera HOWTO page
Make sure the cameras have power.
Make sure the correct input is selected in VIC; there are 4 inputs
on each video card, the camera uses S-Video
Make sure the cables have not been disconnected from the back of
the Linux system.
Try running xawtv from the Linux system. Right-click for
menu. There are 3 capture boards each with 4 selectable inputs. VRVS
uses only one capture board; AG can use 3.
